Prof. B P aMaheshChandraGuru says its a “Victory of Constitution of India”

The Government of India had issued a notification banning sale and purchase of cattle from animal markets for slaughter on May 23, 2017 on the basis of BJP’s Hindutva agenda. It was against the constitutional provisions and fundamental rights of the people of India. There was a nationwide protest by the progressive persons and organisations against this move. There were serious of debates and discussions in the media and society over this issue. The Supreme Court on July 11, 2017 stayed the centre’s notification banning the sale of cattle for slaughter and cautioned the Central Government not to oppose the people’s livelihoods and right to food. This is indeed the most welcome decision which upholds the constitutional and fundamental rights of the people of India. Let this Government seriously work for the empowerment of the marginalised sections of India. It is high time our Prime Minister sustains the Chipko Movement by really embracing the neglected citizens of India rather than embracing the international leaders for obvious reasons.
